Natália de Sousa Martins, a master’s student in the Graduate Program in Gastronomy at UFC, was one of 30 Brazilian women selected—from among 440 applicants—for the Columbia Women’s Leadership Network 2025 program. She recently returned from the initiative’s in-person immersion module, held March 17–21 in New York City (United States).
The training program was organized by Columbia University, one of the world’s most prestigious universities, in partnership with the Columbia Global Center Rio de Janeiro, the U.S. institution’s representative office and hub for initiatives in Brazil. One of the program’s objectives is to develop the participants’ leadership potential and, in doing so, foster the growth of the organizations or institutions where they work.
Natália Tatanka, as she is also known, is an Indigenous woman, psychologist, and researcher on “Gastronomy and Therapy” working with women who participate in the thematic courses offered by the Mental Health Movement (MSM) and the Social Gastronomy Program at Jardim da Gente—UFC outreach initiatives in the Greater Bom Jardim region, on the outskirts of Fortaleza. 🥗 The student serves as a female leader in that area, responsible for coordinating the MSM’s social enterprises, such as Giardino Buffet and Sítio Wopila.
At the Women’s Leadership Network, Natália participated in workshops and field trips focused on topics such as conflict resolution, climate and care in Brazil, inclusive leadership, communication strategy, and decision-making. Very well, Natália!
