REGULATION ON SIMILARITY AND THE USE OF AI IN THE PPGG
This regulation establishes the requirement to submit academic papers to a plagiarism detection tool and governs the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in academic papers and graduate theses at the Federal University of Ceará.
Art.1 – Academic papers by UFC stricto sensu graduate students must be submitted to the similarity-checking tool, which serves as a support tool. It should be noted that its use alone is not sufficient to attest to complete originality or full compliance with current ethical standards.
§1 The student must request a schedule for his or her defense (qualifying paper, dissertation, or thesis) through the SIGAA system, and must attach the submission report for his
work—signed by the advisor—to the similarity detection tool provided or designated by UFC. Path in the system for scheduling the defense: Student Portal > Academic Programs > Graduation. In addition to the similarity report, the student must also attach the signed Declaration of the Advisor’s Agreement with the proposed composition of the examination committee (as per the template attached to the Administrative Order—Annex II).
§2 The Graduate Program coordination office will validate/approve the information entered after verifying that the registration complies with the current regulations of UFC and the Graduate Program, the provisions of CAPES, and any future resolutions or regulations of the Federal University of Ceará applicable to this matter. Path in the system for approving the schedule: Coordinator Portal > Student > Completion > Manage Exam Committees.
Art.2 – Each graduate program shall be responsible for:
I – disseminating the content of this Ordinance internally to active students and faculty members;
II – determining, through internal ordinances or resolutions, the maximum percentage and number of passages that may show similarity in works produced by the program;
III – Request that each active faculty member keep their email address up to date in the SIGAA system. Access to the tool, contracted by the Federal University of Ceará, will be granted
to faculty members based on the information registered in SIGAA. Link to access the Turnitin system:
